Mission of Naretu Girls and Women Empowerment Programme:
Eradicate harmful cultural traditions that have negative effects on girls and women
Our Project
The Naretu Girls and Women Empowerment programme is a community based organisation located in Samburu County, Kenya.
Heritage of cultural traditions are strong in this regionvand girls are often exposed to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) as a rite of passage to adulthood. Forced marriages, traditional abortions and gender-based violence are also a common practice on girls and women in Samburu county. These cultural practices are devastating and affect their lives physically, psychologically, economically and socially.
Through an Empowerment programme, which includes education and promotion of self reliance, we give the opportunity to girls and women to embrace education and say NO TO FGM.
